On Thursday, September 17, 2015, the City of Rockville Historic District Commission heard the request from Montgomery County for a Certificate of Approval to remove the Confederate Monument from the Courthouse Square Historic District. After hearing the HDC staff recommendation and statements from around 20 speakers, the HDC voted 4-0 to allow removal of the statue, with the request that it remain in Rockville.
