City of Rockville Votes Not To Accept Confederate Statue

ch1992.040-ConfederateSoldierOn February 8, 2015, the Rockville Mayor and Council voted, 4-1, to deny Montgomery County’s request to relocate the Confederate Soldier statue. Montgomery County had requested to have relocated it to City property at the Beall Dawson Historic Park. When the Historic District Commission (HDC) granted permission for the statue’s removal from the Courthouse Square Historic District, they had requested it be retained within the City of Rockville. The HDC had approved its installation at the Beall Dawson Historic Park, contingent on the City’s acceptance. To view the recording of this meeting, visit the City’s website here.
